Home Sweet Home
This is northwest San Antonio, my stomping ground. I wasn´t born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could! S.A. is located in Bexar (pronounced "bare") County, and is home to well over a million interesting and varied individuals. There´s so much to do here, but the best is to visit the scenic south Texas Hill Country. One of my favorite things to do is to drive up to Bandera or spend time camping with my husband at Garner State Park. Other scenic areas in the vicinity are Pedernales Falls, Enchanted Rock and Hill Country State Natural Area.
Even though I have a special place in my heart for the Pacific Northwest, I returned home to where my family lives. Of course, when the endless long hot dog days of summer drag on, I always question that decision (wink).
With all this surrounding beauty, it's no wonder that this area of the state has produced some of the most talented, well-known landscape and wildlife artists in the country. Wade Butler, Larry Dyke, Randy Peyton and Dalhart Windberg are all home grown Texas artists whose work I greatly admire.
I think Wikimapia is the latest and greatest Internet map, and it's even editable just like its big brother, Wikipedia. It loads much faster than earlier maps, and the detail is amazing. A great way for kids to learn geography, browsing the map is quite addictive. It boggles my mind that so many kids these days don´t know basic geography when they have access to such astounding resources in their own homes! Actually, it´s kind of tragic when you think about it.
If you like satellite maps, another good one is the Flash Earth map that is updated daily by NASA.
